Demonstrating the power of creativity and 
collaboration, 153 Upper School students each created 
an individual square that came together to form a 
remarkable collective mural at Art EXPO 2026.
explore who they are. As they create, share, and 
reflect, they also develop empathy. They begin 
to appreciate different perspectives, celebrate 
one another’s ideas, and recognize that there are 
many ways to see the world. In that way, art builds 
community as much as it builds skill.
Art Expo is such a meaningful experience 
because it honors the journey of our students. This 
special event tells them that their ideas matter 
enough to be displayed, celebrated, and shared 
publicly. Seeing their work professionally presented 
often transforms how students see themselves—
they stand taller, speak with pride, and recognize 
that what they created has value. What people 
may not realize is that the Expo represents months 
of growth: experimentation, revision, problem-
solving, courage, and persistence. If a parent 
walks through the Expo, I hope they leave feeling 
inspired by the creativity of children, proud of 
what students are capable of, and reminded that 
art education is not an “extra”—it is an essential 
part of helping young people become thoughtful, 
resilient, and fully human.
