Tracy Smith has been 5th/6th Grade Science at St. Michael’s School since 2019. A Tucson native, she first graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Natural Resources: Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. She enjoyed exciting opportunities working as a park ranger, a zoo educator, and a veterinary assistant, but soon discovered a passion for helping others learn about and appreciate the “hows and the whys” of Earth’s wonders. Tracy returned to the U of A to earn a Master’s degree in Teaching and Teacher Education, then began her 20-year career as a Science teacher. She loves encouraging students’ excitement in learning, exploring and sharing “a-ha” moments together, and helping them make connections between science and the natural world. Tracy and her husband, John, take pride in the fact that their children share her love of science. Their son, Thayer, recently earned his Field Archaeology Certification and is currently working towards a degree in Anthropology. Their daughter, Jillian, attends the U of A and is working towards a degree in Environmental Science while interning with the AZ Department of Fire and Forestry Management. Whether or not her students wish to pursue a future in a STEM-related field, Tracy hopes to foster curiosity, critical thinking skills, and a growth mindset in each of them.
