Teacher: French, Upper School

M. A. in Education: Teaching Second Languages and Cultures: French & ESL, University of Minnesota
B.A. in French and Speech Communication and International Relations, University of Minnesota

Laurel has taught French and ESL to K–12 students for the past 25 years. Her experience includes teaching both English and French as additional languages, as well as serving as a 4th-grade classroom teacher in both private and public schools in Minneapolis, MN; Boston and Andover, MA; and in international schools in Indonesia, Lebanon, Zimbabwe, and Vietnam. Although she has taught all grade levels, Mrs. Howe especially enjoys working with students in grades 4 through 8.

A passionate traveler, she has taken her husband and children along on overseas teaching assignments, exploring the world together while studying various languages and cultures. Teaching French was her primary goal when returning to earn her master’s degree in education. While completing her French degree, Mrs. Howe worked in a suburb of Paris, France.

Laurel feels incredibly blessed to share the joy of communicating in another language with the students of St. Michael. She loves the warm, family-like environment of the campus, staff, and student community.

Outside the classroom, Laurel enjoys hiking, spin classes, oil-painting lessons, and reading nonfiction. She lives with her husband, daughter, son, and their rescue pup.
